Year 4

at Ballyclare Primary School!

In Primary 4 the children enjoy a longer school day and embark on new experiences such as learning joined handwriting, starting swimming lessons and attending after-school clubs.

We continue to follow the Jolly Phonics and Grammar programmes and put our Literacy learning to use in many topic-themed writing projects. Our comprehension skills are stretched through a range of texts and we start using Accelerated Reader. Numeracy is taught every day and includes practical, mental, group and independent activities. Primary 4 children begin to learn the times tables and many of our lessons are taught in Numeracy Groups where all abilities are catered for through targeted teaching.

Primary 4 pupils complete various Digital Badges using iPads and desktop computers to show off their Digital Art, Presenting and Coding skills to name a few! World Around Us is brought to life through UICT, Activity-Based Learning, Activity Days and trips. Particular favourites are the World War II and Ancient Romans activity days and our trip to Cultra for our Houses and Homes topic. We love to visit the local library and make regular trips to the park to take our lessons outdoors.

Treemendous Trees
Life as a Child in World War II
