Girls’ Hockey Team at Northern Ireland Finals!

20th Apr 2018

On Wednesday 18th April, our girls’ hockey Team travelled to Playball Pavillion at Stormont to compete in the Northern Ireland Hockey Finals.

The girls had a tough first match against Downshire PS, where they had to defend a lot. They managed to get a break away goal and won their first match 1-0. The next match against Killyman and the girls won again 1-0. The next match was incredibly tough against a fantastic Armstrong PS team, who were the eventual overall winners. The girls defended well but lost their first match of the season 2-0. Their last two matches were against Broughshane and Fairview, which the girls both won 2-1. This meant they finished in second in their group, which is an incredible achievement with such a high standard of hockey on display!

As the girls finished second, this meant that we qualified for the Cup final matches for the first time in our school history, rather than the plate. We are so so proud of the girls for reaching this stage, as it means they were in the top 12 schools in the country!

The girls were drawn against Markethill and Friends Prep for the next round of matches and fairly narrowly lost 1-0 to Markethill and drew with Friends 0-0. Unfortunately this wasn’t enough for the girls to get into the semi final, as Friends progressed into the semi final from our group. But the girls should hold their heads high as they managed to draw 0-0 with the cup semi-finalists!

It has been a wonderful season for our Girls’ Hockey Team and we are looking forward to the May Fair Tournament to finish the year!
