P5 had a fantastic time taking part in The Life Cycle of a Flower workshop, delivered through Power Plants by Nerve Centre, a creative heritage project led by artist Oliver Jeffers.
Power Plants is a programme that explores how we generate, use and value power, and how we can rethink it to restore balance with nature. It includes large-scale installations of chimneys overflowing with flowers, an augmented reality app, and partnerships with organisations such as the Eden Project, NI Science Festival and National Museums NI.
During the workshop, the children learned about the journey of a flower from seed to full bloom. Creativity came alive as our children used tissue paper, drawings and pipe cleaners to design their own flower life cycles, before bringing them to life through stop motion animation.
This project builds on the work of our P2 pupils, who last year planted Power Plants wildflower seeds sent to them from Nerve Centre. It has been wonderful for our older pupils to now participate in this exciting project.
The workshop was a blend of science, art and technology, and P5 enjoyed every moment. Their enthusiasm shone through and they were so proud to see their flowers bloom on screen.
A huge thank you to Nerve Centre for this opportunity. It was such a memorable day of learning and creativity.
