We understand that the move from primary to post-primary school is a big step for both pupils and their parents. In Ballyclare Primary School we work closely with pupils, parents and our local post-primary schools to ensure the transition is as smooth and enjoyable as possible.
For some pupils the transition process begins with preparation for the SEAG assessment. Our team of Primary 7 teachers are experts in ensuring pupils have the best opportunities to complete the assessments and they are always available to offer advice to parents on the SEAG process.
Our Primary 7 teachers understand the need to prepare children for the transition to Year 8 and their Term 3 Topic of ‘Sowing and Growing’ encourages children to explore the opportunities and challenges of growing older and making the move to another school. During their final term with us, our Primary 7 pupils complete the ‘It’s Your Move’ programme led by Scripture Union. These workshops prepare our pupils for Year 8 and give them the opportunity to discuss some of the changes they will experience.
We also welcome teachers from our local post-primary schools into our school to talk to our Primary 7 pupils about being a pupil in Year 8. Pupils in P6 and 7 get lots of opportunities to visit these post-primary schools too, including watching the school musicals, attending digital events and familiarisation mornings.
