First month of Primary 1
What a fantastic first month our P1s have had as they begin their school journey in BPS! Over the past…
Primary One is the beginning of the Ballyclare Primary School journey for our children and there are so many new and exciting experiences for pupils to enjoy in their first year. A big part of Primary One is Play Based Learning and we understand and value the importance of play in developing a child’s creativity, curiosity and social skills.
Pupils also experience lots of opportunities for outdoor play and learning. On Welly Wednesday walks we go to the Sixmile park for a whole range of exciting outdoor curricular experiences based on topical books.
In Primary One, pupils build the foundations of their Numeracy and Literacy knowledge and understanding. We use the Jolly Phonics programme to teach early literacy skills in a progressive, multi-sensory way. Practical materials are used in Numeracy to help children develop a sense of number and a love for the subject.
We work closely with all local Nursery schools and preschool providers to ensure there is a smooth transition to Primary School and it doesn’t take long before our Primary One children feel part of the Ballyclare Primary School family.Â
